What is a visual field test (campimetry/perimetry)
It is a test that measures the area of space that the eye can see while maintaining a fixed gaze on a central point.
It is performed using a computerized perimeter: the patient stares at a point on the screen and presses a button when he perceives flashes of light in different positions.
It is used to map retinal sensitivity, defining the minimum perceptible light "threshold" for each point.
Why is it important
Prevention and monitoring of ocular and neurological diseases:
Glaucoma, retinitis pigmentosa, maculopathies, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, retinal detachment.
